Yamaha Motor India is aiming to sell 1.2 million two-wheelers by 2017. This was announced during the launch of their latest 125cc motorcycle, the Saluto.
As per their latest plan, the Japanese manufacturer is targeting to sell 8,00,000 units in 2015. It is in the process of setting up its new facility in Chennai, which will be inaugurated next month. The company is currently focussing on the executive segment in the motorcycle segment. However, it plans to launch mass market motorcycles in the 100cc-110cc segment.
Yamaha is hoping to sell around 60,000 units of the Saluto this year. With sales, it is also looking to expand its distribution network, mainly in the rural areas. Also, as per the company, the sales ratio between scooters and motorcycles would be equal in the years to come.
“We are targeting to sell 800,000 units this year. For 2016, the target is one million units and for 2017 it is 1.2 million units. Since 2008 we are following a top-down approach," said Roy Kurian, vice-president, marketing and sales, Yamaha Motor India sales.
