Yamaha Motor India has introduced the updated versions of the Alpha, Ray and Ray Z. These new variants get Yamaha’s patented Blue Core technology, which was first seen on the FZ FI.
The Japanese manufacturer claims that using this technology, its scooters are more fuel efficient and also the riding and performance aspects have gone to an all new level. The fuel efficiency of these scooters has now gone up by 4kmpl to 66kmpl from 62kmpl. While the Ray will continue to be sold in its old colours, the Alpha and the Ray Z gets gleaming gold and cyan splash as new colours. The updated Alpha has been priced at Rs 49,939 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Ray and the Ray Z will be sold at Rs 48,936 and Rs 47,805 (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.
“We are eying around 10 percent share in the fast growing scooter market in India this year riding on our three scooter offerings. Currently, we have over 5 percent market share in the scooter segment, which is pegged at around 3 lakh units per month. The success of the Ray, Ray Z, and Alpha scooters are essential to Yamaha to realize its targets in the coming years. We are looking to place ourselves as a mass-market leader in India and scooters is certainly are main focus to be able to achieve this. Yamaha sees scooters contributing over 50 percent of its sales in the future. Currently, scooters constitute about 40 percent of our sales," Roy Kurian, vice president, Yamaha Motor India Sales.
Yamaha India has started feeling the heat from its competitors and that’s why the Indian market got not one but three updated scooters. While the scooter segment continues to grow rapidly, Yamaha still trails the Honda and Hero by a big margin.
