- Yamaha rumoured to be working on a 250cc inline-four motorcycle
- Likely to be called the YZF R25M
- Will compete against the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R has created a stir in the biking fraternity as it is currently the only 250cc in-line four-cylinder motorcycle in the international market. However, that might change soon as Yamaha is rumoured to be working on its own quarter-litre four-cylinder machine which will take on the ZX-25R.
According to an Indonesian publication, this motorcycle will be christened the YFZ R25M. Notably, Yamaha already has the YZF R25 on sale in the international markets but it is powered by a 250cc parallel-twin engine. The suffix 'M' in the name will signify the presence of a four-cylinder mill in the rumoured bike.
While the details about this motorcycle are scarce yet, it is likely to boast of a styling heavily inspired by its elder sibling, the YZF R1M. Also, expect it to emulate the Ninja ZX-25R in terms of electronics by offering things like a bi-directional quick shifter, traction control and multiple riding modes. The power output from its 250cc inline-four motor could also be on par with the ZX-25R’s 49.3bhp and 22.9Nm.
The 250cc inline four segment is likely to witness a heated competition in the coming days. Besides Yamaha, even Honda is said to be working on its own version of the CBR250RR with a four-cylinder mill. More details about these bikes are likely to surface in the coming days.
