Yamaha may be working on two new middleweight motorcycles, claims Japanese magazine Young Magazine. The motorcycle rumored to be the YZF-R400 and the YZF-R650 will compete with the Honda CBR500R and the Kawasaki Ninja 650.
This rumour may turn out to be true as the Japanese company had shown few journalists a new twin-cylinder engine along with its new triple-cylinder engine that powers the FZ-09. However, the company was tight lipped about the displacement and performance figures but it might be a 650cc which will be toned down to 400cc for some markets. The same business practice was used by Kawasaki with its 650cc engine which was offered in 400 in some markets to suit local laws.
Currently, Yamaha doesn’t have a motorcycle which will be placed between R6 and R15. With these new motorcycles, it will help the company fill in the void. Yamaha is also working on a 250cc motorcycle that is mainly targeted towards developing markets like India and Indonesia.
