Yamaha is reportedly developing a sports tourer version of its popular naked motorcycle, the MT-09. Several renderings of the motorcycle have been posted online by an Indonesian blog and by the looks of it, the motorcycle seems feasible enough to be put into production.
As the motorcycle will be based on the MT-09, the sports tourer, expected to be called MT-09X, will borrow a major chunk of its components from the naked motorcycle’s parts bin. The renderings show the motorcycle using the same chassis, swing arm and exhaust system.
To suit the purpose of dual purpose tourer, the front suspension travel will be increased while the front fairing will feature a tall windshield. Seating position will be altered with taller handlebars and dual seats. The instrument display is expected to be revamped to display a host of extra information.
The Yamaha MT-09X is expected to be powered by a tuned version of the same three-cylinder 850cc engine which delivers 115bhp and 84Nm of torque. The report goes on to say that the MT-09X might be unveiled at the InterMot show in Cologne, Germany or at the EICMA in Italy. If the MT-09X is priced above Rs 13 lakh, it not only rivals the Triumph Tiger 800C, but also other sports touring motorcycles like the Suzuki V-Strom and the BMW F650.
