India Yamaha Motors might introduce the M-Slaz motorcycle in India says a source.
The company has a very good share in the premium 150cc segment and wants to increase its footprint in the Indian market. Currently, Yamaha has the SZ and the FZ range of motorcycles that takes care of the 150cc commuter market. The SZ is positioned more as a commuter bike, whereas the FZ is targeted towards young audience. The Japanese maker also has the YZF-R15 brand in India, however, that sits above Rs 1 lakh price bracket.
The Japanese maker launched the MT series in India with the MT09 and might get more bikes from the series in future. However, the M-Slaz also makes sense for the Indian market as it could bridge the gap between the FZ range of motorcycles and the YZF-R15. In terms of manufacturing too, the M-Slaz will share some of the components with the R15, making it financially viable for the company.
