- Both bikes are likely to be launched soon
- Showcased alongside the 300cc bikes
- Powered by a 689cc, twin-cylinder motor
Yamaha India recently showcased a bunch of new motorcycles, including the 300cc and 700cc offerings. Its middleweight portfolio includes the R7 and the MT–07 and both models have also been displayed in India. Yamaha is likely to launch the 700cc twins very soon and here’s what we know about them.
The YZF-R7 and MT-07 are powered by a 689cc, twin-cylinder motor mated to a six-speed gearbox. This engine dishes out 73bhp at 8,750rpm and 67Nm at 6,500rpm. Even the hardware for the two Japanese middleweights is quite similar in terms of the braking setup. Both get dual 298mm front discs and a single 245mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. However, the R7 rides on USD front forks and a monoshock, whereas the MT-07 receives conventional telescopic front forks and a monoshock.
Yamaha has also equipped its 700cc twins with a fully digital instrument console. It gets a speedometer, trip meter, tachometer, fuel level readout, odometer, clock, gear position indicator, and more. The MT-07 also comes with smartphone connectivity, which gives you access to incoming calls and messages.
Yamaha India hasn’t made an official announcement regarding any of its new products yet, but we expect it to happen soon. The Yamaha YZF-R7 will rival the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Honda CBR 650R, whereas the MT-07 has the Triumph Trident 660, Kawasaki Z650, and the likes in its crosshair.
