-Yamaha may bring the street naked bike to India
-The 2024 model received major upgrades
-AMT variant also available
The Yamaha MT-09 street naked motorcycle is being considered for a launch in India. The Japanese manufacturer has been missing from the big bike market in India for years. The new MT-09 could rekindle Yamaha’s run in this space that is currently being dominated by the Triumph Street Triple and Kawasaki Z900.
The MT-09 received a slew of updates for 2024. The styling is new, and aggressive and lends the bike a mean personality. It gets a sharper-looking headlight cowl, a bigger fuel tank and a slim tail
The equipment list is also pretty long. There’s a new colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation. The switchgear is new as well and is pretty intuitive to use. As far as electronics are concerned, the bike has six-axis IMU-supported traction control, slide control system, ABS and three ride modes- Street, Sport and Rain. In addition to this, two ride modes can be customised by the rider.
Yamaha also launched the Y-AMT variant on the MT-09 this year. This automated manual transmission uses two actuators, one for the clutch and the gearbox to shift up and down the cogs automatically when the rider selects D/D+ modes. There’s a manual mode also that allows the rider to change gears using a pair of switches on the left switch cube.
Powering the Yamaha MT-09 is an 890cc, inline-triple CP3 or crossplane three-engine as it is called. It produces 117bhp and 93Nm. These figures are around the same ballpark as the competition.
Lastly, the bike employs an aluminium Deltabox frame that is suspended by an adjustable USD fork and a linkage-type monoshock. Yamaha has changed the spring rate and damping for 2024. The SP model, meanwhile benefits from an Ohlins suspension unit at both ends.
The Yamaha MT-09 is expected to be priced around Rs 13 lakh, ex-showroom mark if Yamaha decides to launch the bike in India. As for the launch timeline, expect to hear something from Yamaha soon.
