Yamaha MT 15 V2: What else can you buy?

Yamaha finally gave the MT 15 its much needed-update recently. The motorcycle now gets upside-down front forks, an updated instrument cluster, an aluminium swingarm, and new colour options. However, with a price tag of Rs 1.60 lakh, it might seem like an expensive proposition. In that case, here are its similarly-priced alternatives.

Bajaj Dominar 250: Rs 1.64 lakh

By shelling out just Rs 4,000 over the MT 15’s pricing, one can buy the bigger Bajaj Dominar 250. It’s a smaller displacement iteration of the Dominar 400 with identical styling and almost the same cycle parts. It gets a full-ED lighting system, a fully-digital console, and a 248cc, liquid-cooled engine that churns out 26.63bhp and 23.5Nm.

Bajaj Pulsar RS 200: Rs 1.64 lakh

For the same price as the Dominar 250, riders who want a sportier riding experience can choose the Pulsar RS 200. It’s the only fully-faired motorcycle from the Chakan-based brand with a shouty and radical design. It’s powered by a rev-happy 199.5cc, liquid-cooled engine that produces 24.2bhp and 18.7Nm.

KTM 125 Duke: Rs 1.71 lakh

If you want something more premium but smaller than the aforementioned products, the KTM 125 Duke is about Rs 10,000 more expensive than the MT 15. It borrows a lot of components from the bigger Duke like a split trellis frame, upside-down forks, and an aluminium swingarm. Even the design is identical to the 200 Duke and 250 Duke. It runs on a 124.71cc mill that’s good for 14.3bhp and 12Nm.

Suzuki Gixxer 250: Rs 1.80 lakh

The Suzuki Gixxer 250 is another street naked worth considering. Although it looks like the 155cc Gixxer, it gets an extremely smooth 249cc, oil-cooled engine that produces 26.13bhp and 22.2Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. The motorcycle is quite basic in terms of features and misses out on things like a slipper clutch and Bluetooth connectivity.

Jawa Standard: Rs 1.78-1.93 lakh

If you want something that takes you back to the good old days of motorcycles, the Jawa Standard is up for the job. With glistening chrome, rounded body panels, and spoke wheels, the Jawa Standard is modern-retro in the truest of sense. On the contrary, the engine is quite punchy with performance numbers of 27bhp and 27.05Nm along with a six-speed gearbox.
