After numerous spy shots and speculations, Yamaha finally unveiled the MT-25 in Indonesia last month. While it was obvious that the Japanese manufacturer was going to introduce a more powerful MT-03 motorcycle for the European markets, we have the first confirmation of the model in the form of this leaked patent drawing.
The patent drawing shows that the MT-03 will be visually identical to the quarter-litre MT-25, except for the addition of an ABS unit. The MT-03 will get a bigger 321cc parallel-twin powerplant from the European-spec YZF-R3, which delivers 40.5bhp of power and 29.6Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed, and makes the MT-03 one of the most powerful offerings in the segment.
We had recently reported that Yamaha is planning to launch the R3 in India by next month, while the naked MT-03 will go on sale by early 2016. The MT-03 will also be locally assembled in India like the R3. It will compete with other streetfighters like the KTM Duke 390, Kawasaki Z250 and the Benelli TNT 300.
