The upcoming touring-focussed version of the Yamaha MT-07 has been spotted testing in Italy. While the test mule was missing the adjustable windscreen, the bike is still easily identifiable thanks to the distinct frame and styling of the motorcycle.
Expected to be christened MT-07 Tracer along the lines of the bigger MT-09 Tracer tourer, the test mule was spotted undergoing trials with a pillion rider. Though it is mechanically similar to its naked sibling, the MT-07 Tracer gets a number of ergonomic upgrades to aid the bike’s touring quotient. The split seats have been ditched in favour of an elongated single seat, while the handlebar has been raised to offer a more comfortable riding position. Even the footpegs have been moved forward to offer more room, while the pillion rider gets a grabrail.
The MT-07 Tracer will use the same 689cc parallel-twin engine, which delivers 73.8bhp and 68Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission. We can expect Yamaha to strengthen the chassis and alter the suspension setup to improve the MT-07 Tracer’s payload capacity.
The MT-07 Tracer is expected to be launched globally, later in this year, as a 2016 model. It will compete with other semi-faired touring motorcycles like the Benelli TNT 600GT, Kawasaki Versys 650, Honda NC700X and the Suzuki V-Strom 650.
