Yamaha has unveiled the MT-09 Tracer at the ongoing 2014 EICMA Show in Milan, Italy. The MT-09 Tracer, as the name suggests, is based on the Japanese manufacturer’s popular naked motorcycle, the MT-09. The MT-09 Tracer has been substantially upgraded to transform it into an adventure touring motorcycle.
The suspension travel at both ends has been increased considerably to suit the requirements of a dual purpose touring machine. The alloy wheels however, indicate that the MT-09 Tracer is meant to be kept on the road more often than off it.
The front fairing will feature a tall windshield for better wind deflection while the seating position will be altered with taller handlebars and repositioned foot pegs. It also gets step seats to make long hauls more comfortable. The instrument display has been revamped and displays a host of extra information. It also gets a bigger 18-litre fuel tank to reduce the number of fuel stops.
The MT-09 Tracer is powered by the same three-cylinder 847cc crossplane engine which produces 115bhp and 84Nm of torque, through a six-speed gearbox. The MT-09 Tracer competes with other adventure tourers like the Triumph Tiger 800XC, Ducati Hypermotard and the Suzuki V-Strom 1000.
The MT-09 Tracer also gets a centre-stand, panniers, 12-volt power socket and adjustable screen and handlebars. A switchable traction control system (TCS) and ABS come as standard. The MT-09 Tracer will be available in three paint schemes - grey, red and blue. Deliveries in the US will commence around March, next year.
