Last month, Yamaha launched the streetfighter version of its flagship litre-class superbike at the 2015 ECIMA Show in Italy. Based on the YZF-R1 superbike, the Yamaha MT-10 is the perfect personification of a stripped down hooligan bike. The MT-10 sits on top of the MT food chain in Yamaha’s line-up, locking horns with the likes of the BMW S1000R, KTM 1290 Super Duke, Ducati Monster 1200 R and the Aprilia Tuono V4. The straight handlebar and revised footpeg placing have resulted in a taller and more upright riding position.
The aluminium Deltabox frame encloses a 998cc four-cylinder 'CP4' crossplane engine, retuned to offer extra low to mid-range torque.
The engine delivers around 165bhp and 101Nm of torque through a six-speed constant mesh transmission.
The four into one exhaust system has been carried over from the YZF-R1, though the heat shield gets a different design.
The instrument cluster is made of a MotoGP-inspired fully-electronic multicolour LCD display, again borrowed from the YZF-R1.
The muscular radiator vents extending from the side of the fuel tank are trademark design influences of the MT range of streetfighters.
The fluorescent five-spoke alloy wheel is linked to an aluminium swingarm and a fully adjustable monocross suspension.
The front fascia gets a compact yet aggressive-looking LED headlamp design that underlines the MT-10’s aggressive character.
The MT-10’s electronics package includes a three-level traction control system, three rider mode options and a slipper clutch.
Globally, the Yamaha MT-10 is offered in three quirky paint schemes –
