Yamaha MT15 bookings officially started

- Minimum amount of Rs 5000 being accepted officially

- Deliveries to tentatively begin from mid-April

Yamaha India will be launching its all-new offering, the MT-15, in India on 15 March. There is much anticipation  on the part of enthusiasts for this motorcycle and its transformer-style looks and R15 V3.0 underpinnings. With only four days to go for the launch, the manufacturer has now started accepting bookings for the motorcycle at a minimum amount of Rs 5000, which is refundable.

The MT-15 is the naked version of the popular R15 V3.0 with a streetbike design language based on the MT-09 sold in India. It gets a sculpted tank with prominent tank extensions, wide handlebar, petite tail section, LED projector headlamp unit and an all-digital instrument console. Compared to the international-spec model showcased in Indonesia, leaked image of the Indian-spec MT-15 confirm telescopic forks and a box-type swingarm instead of the instead of USDs and cast aluminium unit in order to save on costs. The bike also features a different set of alloy wheels. For braking, the bike employs disc brakes at both ends, equipped with dual-channel ABS.

In terms of motive force, the MT-15 will be powered by the same 155cc single-cylinder four-valve mill with VVA technology that is the same as the R15 V3.0. The motor is slated to deliver 19bhp of max power and 14.7Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed gearbox.

Post launch, deliveries of the motorcycle are tentatively expected to begin from mid-April. In terms of rivalry, the MT-15 will compete against the KTM 125 Duke.
