Yamaha has launched its highly anticipated streetbike – the MT-15 in India at Rs 1.36 lakhs (ex-showroom). Based on the fully-faired YZF R15 V3, the motorcycle has been placed above the FZ series. After various spy shots and videos, the MT-15 is finally here! We take a look at the pictures of the motorcycle from its launch.
The motorcycle boasts of an aggressive stance with muscular panels and predator-like headlamp section which consists of LED lights.
The instrument cluster of the MT-15 is a fully-digital LCD unit which is similar to that on its fully-faired sibling.
The fuel tank resembles that of the new FZ V3 but it gets a more chiselled design. Meanwhile, the extensions give the fuel tank an added bulk.
At the rear, the tail section of the MT-15 is sleek and minimalistic while it features LED lamps. There’s also a long grab rail for added convenience for the pillion.
Powering the MT-15 is a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), which powers the R15 V3 as well. It produces 19bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm at 8500rpm.
The powerplant is mated to a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch. This prevents locking of the rear wheel and aids in aggressive down shifting.
Yamaha has underpinned the bike with its trademark ‘Deltabox’ frame and the swingarm is a box type unit, as opposed to the R15’s aluminium swingarm.
The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels which are shod with MRF tubeless tyres. Braking is handled by 245mm front disc and 220mm rear disc while a single-channel ABS comes as standard.
In its segment, the Yamaha MT-15 competes against the KTM 125 Duke and its quarter-litre sibling, the Yamaha FZ25.
The Yamaha MT-15 has been introduced in two colour options which include ‘Dark Matte Blue’ and ‘Metallic Black’.
