- Video was shown to Yamaha dealers in India
- Will feature telescopic forks
- Expected to be launched in February
A few days ago, we told you that few Yamaha dealers have started accepting bookings for the upcoming MT-15 which is expected to be launched in March. Now, a video has been posted on YouTube that was shot at a Yamaha dealer event further confirming that the MT-15 is due for launch in India soon.
While the video is not too clear, it does reveal few details of the upcoming motorcycle. The MT-15 shown in the video features telescopic forks instead of inverted ones as seen on the international-spec model. Apart from that, expect the Indian-spec MT-15 to feature a box-type swingarm instead of the aluminium one on the R15. Also, expect the Indian-spec MT-15 to come with MRF radials instead of sticky IRC tyres. The decision to opt of these cycle parts can be linked to Yamaha trying to keep the overall cost in check.
Apart from that, the video also confirms that the MT-15 is based on Yamaha’s ‘The dark side of Japan’ theme which is similar to MT-09 sold in India. In terms of firepower, the MT-15 will be powered by R15 V3.0’s 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled units that makes 18.7bhp and 15Nm. The motor will come with Yamaha VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology while being mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
In terms of price, the MT-15 is expected to be priced around the Rs 1.25 lakhs (ex-showroom) bracket and will face competition with the KTM 125 Duke and the Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
