-MT-15 priced at Rs 1.36 lakhs
-Based on YZF-R15 V3 and sports a 155cc engine
-Directly competes against the KTM 125 Duke
The Yamaha MT-15 is now available in India with a price tag of Rs 1.36 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The MT-15 shares most of its underpinnings with its fully-faired sibling, the YZF-R15 V3. However, the streetfighter has a character of its own. The MT-15 sports a radical-looking full-LED headlamp setup along with a muscular tank and tank extensions that add to its aggressive appeal. The bike sports a svelte rear with a grab rail that extends from the mid-section.
Powering the MT-15 is a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that generates 19bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm of torque at 8500rpm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox and an assist and slipper clutch along with the VVA (variable valve actuation) technology that is also featured on the YZF-R15 V3. This motor is housed in Yamaha’s famed ‘Deltabox’ frame. Now the only difference here is the swingarm which is a box-type unit on the MT-15 unlike the aluminium swingarm on the international-spec model.
The MT-15 rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres sourced from MRF. Suspension duties are done by telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking on the MT-15 is handled by a 245mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear. The bike comes equipped with a single-channel ABS unit.
Yamaha is offering the MT-15 in two-colour schemes, ‘Dark Matte Blue’ with bright neon yellow accents and a ‘Metallic Black’ colour. The manufacturer is also offering a two-year warranty on the MT-15. Bookings for the motorcycle have already commenced and deliveries are expected to begin by mid-April. In terms of competition, the Yamaha MT-15 competes against the KTM 125 Duke in India.
