- Was launched on 15 March 2019
- Outsold the KTM 125 Duke
Yamaha had launched its naked street bike, the MT-15, on 15 March 2019 in India. Although it’s been just over a month that it was introduced in our country, the March sales figure of the MT-15 indicates that the bike has been appealing to a lot of buyers. That said, the motorcycle has crossed the 5000 unit sales mark in the month of March.
Considering the pricing and purpose of the MT-15, the motorcycle goes up against KTM’s entry-level offering, the 125 Duke. The latter was launched in November last year and has been the best-selling KTM motorcycle for the last two months. Notably, the company sold 3,096 units of the 125 Duke in March. Priced at Rs 1.24 lakhs, the 125 Duke is around Rs 12,000 cheaper than the MT-15. In spite of that, Yamaha’s latest entrant managed to outsell the baby Duke by clocking sales of 5,203 units.
Based on the fully-faired Yamaha YZF R15 V3, the MT-15 is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that features VVA (variable valve actuation) for enhanced performance. This motor produces 19bhp and 14.7Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox along with assist and slipper clutch. On the feature front, the MT-15 sports LED headlamps and tail lamps and gets an all-digital instrument cluster.
The Yamaha MT-15 is available in two colour options in India; metallic black and dark metallic blue. The motorcycle retails at Rs 1.36 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
