While Yamaha continues testing the new MT-15, a new rendering of this streetfighter version of the YZF-R15 has been circulating over the internet. The rendering is based on the previous spy shots of the MT-15 and gives us a faint idea of how the 150cc bike might look like.
Though it is based on the same Deltabox chassis, the front suspension setup is made of USD forks in place of the current R15’s conventional telescopic units. The MT-15 will be powered by the same 149cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, though we can expect a slight bump in power and torque figures. Cosmetically, the MT-15 will be designed along the lines of bigger naked motorcycles like the MT-25, MT-07 and the MT-09. The exhaust end can, rear section and the swing arm design is identical to the current YZF-R15, though the alloy wheels get a completely new design.
The Yamaha MT-15 is expected to break cover early next year as a 2016 model. Though it isn’t clear whether this bike will be launched here, it does seem like a worthy rival to the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS. In case Yamaha decides to bring the MT-15 to the Indian market, it will be positioned above the FZ-S and the Fazer.
