Yamaha’s upcoming streetfighter version of the YZF-R15, expected to be christened MT-15, has been spotted testing in Indonesia. The sparsely camouflaged test mule previews the updates for the next-generation YZF-R15.
The MT-15 seems to be based on the same Deltabox chassis though the front suspension setup is made of USD forks in place of the current R15’s conventional telescopic units. This is quite a significant upgrade as none of Yamaha’s small-capacity motorcycles use USD forks, and we can safely expect the next-generation R15 to sport a similar suspension setup. The MT-15 will be powered by the same 149cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. We can expect a slight bump in power and torque figures to improve the bike’s performance. Cosmetically, the MT-15 will draw inspiration from its bigger siblings like the MT-25, MT-07 and the MT-09. The alloy wheel design is also completely new.
We can expect the Yamaha MT-15 to be unveiled by early 2016. It is not known whether Yamaha will be the launching MT-15 in the Indian market though it does seem like a worthy competitor to the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS.
