- Based on YZF-R15 V3.
- To get telescopic front forks.
- Expected to be priced around Rs 1.30 lakhs.
The Yamaha MT-15 has finally been spotted testing in India.
The streetfighter motorcycle which is based on the YZF-R15 V3 is likely to be launched in the country soon. It sports aggressive styling with sharp lines running all through its bodywork. The MT-15 gets a futuristic-looking, low-slung, full-LED headlamp. Furthermore, the muscular fuel tank and tank shrouds, upright riding position and slightly rear-set footpegs complete its streetfighter appeal.
The MT-15 is powered by the same 155cc, single-cylinder engine housed in a 'Deltabox' frame as the YZF-R15 V3. And similar to the latter, the motor is mated to a six-speed gearbox with slipper clutch, gets the VVA technology and produces 18.7bhp and 15Nm of torque.
The MT-15 also sports an LCD instrument display similar to the R15 V3. Braking is handled by 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc. Although the international-spec MT-15 misses out on ABS, it will feature on the model to be sold here. However, going by the spy image, the India-spec MT-15 will ride on telescopic front forks instead of upside-down units that feature on the international model. Suspension on the rear will continue to be handled by a monoshock.
We expect the MT-15 to arrive sometime this month carrying a price tag of around Rs 1.25 lakhs to Rs 1.30 lakhs. It will directly compete against the KTM 125 Duke and KTM 200 Duke here. However, it will also find a rival in its own sibling, the FZ25 which currently retails at Rs 1.19 lakhs but will get a hike in price when it comes equipped with ABS.
