-To be launched tomorrow, 15 March
-Expected to be priced around Rs 1.25 lakhs, ex-showroom
-Powered by the same 155cc engine as the YZF-R15 V3
The Yamaha MT-15 is scheduled to be launched in India tomorrow, 15 March.
Yamaha is expected to price the MT-15 around Rs 1.25 lakhs, ex-showroom. It will be positioned between the FZ V3.0 and the FZ25 and directly compete against the KTM 125 Duke. The MT-15 is based on the YZF-R15 V3 and shares majority of its components with the latter. It is powered by the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as the R15 V3 which produces 19bhp and 14.7Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Suspension duties will be handled by telescopic forks and a rear monoshock while braking is done by a 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc. The MT-15 will get a dual-channel ABS similar to its fully-faired sibling. However, unlike the YZF-R15 V3’s cast aluminium swingarm, the MT-15 gets a box-type unit. On the exterior, the Yamaha MT-15 is a radical looking motorcycle with design inspiration taken from its bigger sibling, the MT-09. So there is a futuristic, full-LED headlamp, a muscular fuel tank and tank shrouds.
Bookings for the Yamaha MT-15 have already begun for a token amount of Rs 5000 and deliveries are likely to commence from mid-April.
