- To be launched in India on 15 March
- Likely to be priced around Rs 1.25-1.3 lakhs
- Bookings for the bike have already commenced
Yamaha Motor India is scheduled to launch the MT-15 in the country on 15 March. The streetfighter shares most of its underpinnings with the YZF-R15 V3 that is sold in the country.
The MT-15, similar to its bigger sibling, the MT-09 is a radical looking motorcycle. It sports a unique-looking, headlamp setup which consists of an LED-projector and DRLs. Furthermore, there’s a neatly-sculpted fuel tank and a svelte tail section. The MT-15 is powered by the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that does duties in the YZF-R15 V3. This motor generates 18.7bhp at 10,000rpm and 15Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. It also gets the VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology and is mated to a six-speed transmission.
The MT-15 is also similar to its fully-faired counterpart in terms of suspension and braking hardware; however it is expected to get a different swingarm. The India-spec MT-15 will use a box-type swingarm in place of the aluminium unit which features on the international version. This has been done to price the MT-15 competitively but it will also change the riding dynamics of the bike.
We expect Yamaha to price the MT-15 around Rs 1.2 lakhs to Rs 1.3 lakhs and will directly compete against the KTM Duke 125.
