Yamaha Motor India has updated its portfolio with the launch of the new MT-15 V2.0 in our market. The latest iteration of the roadster gets several mechanical upgrades over its predecessor and here we list the top highlights of the motorcycle.
Styling
The styling remains similar to the older version and the new MT-15 V2.0 retains the single-pod projector-style headlight with twin DRLs at the front, muscular fuel tank, step-up seat, and a flat handlebar. The new model, however, benefits from an updated colour palette that includes two new and two existing paint options. These include Cyan Storm (new), Racing Blue (new), Ice Fluo-Vermillion, and Metallic Black. All paint options come with a matching colour for the alloy wheels.
Features
The new MT-15 misses a few key features that are available on its fully-faired sibling, the YZF-R15 V4. These include the quickshifter and traction control system. The cockpit, however, gets an upgrade in the form of a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster that connects to a smartphone and works with the Y-Connect App. This feature gives access to maintenance recommendations, parking location, fuel consumption, malfunctions, revs dashboard, and ranking on the smartphone. The dashboard, on the other hand, displays call, e-mail, and SMS alerts and the phone battery status.
Engine
The mechanical specifications remain unaltered and the new MT-15 V2.0 retains the BS6-compliant 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 18.2bhp of power at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. The motor retains the VVA or Variable Valve Actuation technology and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. The transmission continues to pack the assist and slip clutch mechanism.
Hardware
Apart from a revised colour palette and the updated cockpit, the new Yamaha MT-15 V2.0 also benefits from a suspension setup upgrade. This includes the addition of 37mm upside-down front forks instead of the conventional units on the old model. The rear, on the other hand, retains the preload-adjustable mono-shock. The braking tasks are handled by single discs on both wheels while the safety net, unlike the YZF-R15 V4.0, comprises a single-channel ABS. Lastly, the box-section swingarm has been replaced with a MotoGP inspired aluminium unit.
Price
The new Yamaha MT-15 V2.0 is priced at Rs 1.60 lakh. In comparison, the old model was available at Rs 1.46 lakh. This price premium brings improved hardware, better features, and a revised colour palette to the motorcycle.
