India has been desperately waiting to get its hands on the Yamaha R25 or even the R3 which was recently unveiled. While we are still waiting to hear something official and concrete from the Yamaha India officials, there is a rumour that its naked version is being developed in Indonesia - the same place where the R25 debuted and is manufactured.
As per Visordown who claims to have seen the leaked documents, the naked motorcycle is codenamed “MTN250” and is being developed in Indonesia. The same plant is expected to start manufacturing the MT-25 from the middle of next year and that means it will be officially revealed sometime early next year.
The Yamaha MT-25 will be built around the same chassis and engine like the R25/R3, but it is still not clear about the engine size, whether it will get the250cc engine or the 321cc that is used in the R3. Or maybe, just like the fully-faired versions, the Japanese manufacturer will launch both the versions for different markets. The naming conventions of this upcoming bike will be interesting because if it is named MT-25 for the 250cc version, it can’t name the MT-03 as there is already a single cylinder bike that holds that name. Maybe the Japanese manufacturer will name it the MT-320, based on the engine size.
The premium motorcycle segment in India is heating up with many new motorcycles as it is growing in double digits. It won’t be a surprise if the Indian arm of Yamaha decides to sell the MT-25 alongside the R25/R3 because there is a market for both the motorcycle types.
Stay tuned to BikeWale as we get you more details on the Yamaha MT-25.
