A new spy-shot of the Yamaha MT-25 in its production ready avatar has been leaked on the internet. While the MT-25 had been spotted testing in Indonesia several times before, this is by far the clearest spy shot of the motorcycle, which gives us a precise idea of how the quarter-litre naked motorcycle will look like.
The MT-25 is the stripped down, streetfighter version of the YZF-R25 supersports motorcycle. It is built around the same lightweight diamond-type semi-trellis steel frame from the R25, and powered by the 250cc parallel-twin engine. This engine delivers 35.5bhp and 22.1Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission. We can safely expect Yamaha to launch a more powerful MT-03 version of the motorcycle for a few other global markets, powered by the 321cc engine from the YZF-R3. This rebored version of the quarter-litre parallel twin engine produces 42bhp and 30Nm of torque.
Aesthetically, the front section and the side profile of the MT-25 seems to be influenced by the bigger range of naked Yamaha MT models. While the instrument cluster is identical to the R25, the MT-25 does get straight bars instead of the R25’s clip-on handlebars. A majority of the other components including the suspension setup, brakes, seat, fenders as well as the rear section of the MT-25 have been carried over from the R25.
While the R25 was globally unveiled last year amidst a lot of fanfare, the Indian market is yet to get a taste of this highly anticipated motorcycle. Reports suggest that the MT-25 will be unveiled in Indonesia in the next couple of months, though the chances of it being launched in India in this year seem very bleak. The MT-25 will rival other naked motorcycles like the Benelli TNT 300 and the Kawasaki Z250.
