The Yamaha MT-25 has been spotted undergoing trials, once again. The completely undisguised test mule was spotted in Indonesia, and can be identified as the MT-25 thanks to the familiar tail section, which has been borrowed from the Yamaha YZF-R25.
Being based on the YZF-R25, the MT-25 is expected to share many mechanical components with quarter-litre supersports motorcycle. While the rear section is identical to the R25, the front is expected to be styled along the lines of the bigger MT motorcycles.
The MT-25 is based on the same lightweight diamond-type semi-trellis steel frame from the R25 and is powered by the same 250cc parallel-twin engine. This engine delivers out 35.5bhp and 22.1Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox, though the engine characteristics might be tuned to suit the naked motorcycle’s demeanour.
The MT-25 will compete with other small capacity naked motorcycles like the Kawasaki Z250, Benelli TNT 250 and the Suzuki Inazuma 250. We expect it to be globally unveiled in the second half of this year.
