The upcoming Yamaha MT-25 motorcycle was recently teased in one of the popular Indonesian newspapers. This teaser image shows the MT-25’s blacked-out silhouette besides the YZF-R25, YZF-R15 and the NMax scooter, indicating that the quarter-litre naked motorcycle’s launch isn’t very far away.
The MT-25 will be a naked iteration of Yamaha’s new quarter-litre supersports motorcycle, the YZF-R25. Based on the same lightweight diamond-type semi-trellis steel frame from the R25, it is powered by the 250cc parallel-twin engine which produces 35.5bhp and 22.1Nm of torque. While the power figures might be identical to its supersports sibling, the gearing of the six-speed transmission in the MT-25 might be altered to suit the naked bike’s character.
Previous spy shots have shown that the design for MT-25 rear section is identical to that of the R25, while the front is expected to be penned along the lines of the bigger MT range. The similarity in architecture and the sharing of components should help Yamaha save a significant amount of money in development and production costs.
Reports suggest that the MT-25 will be globally unveiled in the next month, with Indonesia being the first market to get the bike. And while our wait to get a taste of the YZF-R25 continues, the chances of the MT-25 being launched in India in this year seem very unlikely.
