Yamaha has finally launched its three-wheeled motorcycle, the Niken, in United Kingdom. Priced at £13,499 (Rs 12.27 lakhs), the Niken is £5100 (Rs 4.67 lakhs) more expensive than the MT-07, the bike that Niken is based on.
The leaning Yamaha gets its power from an 847cc in-line triple engine which produces 115hp at 10,000rpm and 87.5Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear wheel via a chain drive. The three-wheeled Niken sports an assist and slipper clutch, a quick shifter and traction control system. It also gets a D-Mode which further offers three modes to suit rider preference or riding situation and cruise control which can be used from fourth gear or over 50km/h.
This Yamaha rides on two 15-inch front wheels and a single 17-inch wheel at the rear. The front end gets two inverted fork on each wheel that is connected to a central hub. The Niken is 2,150mm long and 1,250mm high with a width of 885mm.
Yamaha Niken is unlikely to come to India as there’s no market for such a motorcycle. But the company will definitely showcase this bike in future automotive shows to increase its brand recall.
