The Yamaha Niken made its global debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in October. Seven months later, the bike will be made available through an online reservation system on 17 May. Yamaha will also reveal prices for the global market then.
Additionally, the manufacturer has also released a video focusing on the electronics package of the bike. This includes an assist and slipper clutch, a Quick shifter for clutch less upshifts, and traction control system that includes two modes and off. It also gets a ‘D-Mode’ which further offers three modes to suit rider preference or riding situation and cruise control which can be used from 4th gear or over 50km/h.
The Yamaha Niken rides on two 15-inch wheels in front and a single 17-inch wheel at the rear. The front end gets two inverted fork on each wheel that is connected to a central hub. Based on the MT-09, the Niken shares its 900cc inline-three cylinder engine with the former. However, Yamaha has not yet revealed the power figures for the three-wheeled motorcycle and we expect that to be out next month too.
While the Niken will be available in global markets, it is highly unlikely to make its way to the Indian motorcycle market.
