Yamaha India showcased the Nmax 155 at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024 with the aim of gauging customer reaction. The Nmax 155 is a maxi-scooter that’s based on the Yamaha Aerox 155’s platform. In many ways, it is the practical and more family-oriented option to the focused and sporty Aerox.
Yamaha is thinking about launching the Nmax 155 sometime towards the end of 2024 or early 2025, and going by the curiosity that the scooter generated, we hope they will launch it in India. If and when the company launches the Nmax 155 in India, this is what we can expect.
Design
The Yamaha Nmax 155 looks like a proper maxi-scooter, the kind that rolls on the streets from Europe to Thailand. This is a large scooter and its size is accentuated by the wide front apron which accommodates the twin LED headlights.
A tall, blacked-out windscreen sits above the headlight, adding to the tall stance of the scooter. From the side, the central spine grabs attention and so does the neatly designed side and tail section.
On the whole, the Nmax 155 looks good and is sure to stand out among a sea of conventionally styled scooters that dot our roads.
Ergonomics
The large size of the scooter translates to a lot of space for the rider and pillion. At the Expo, we sat on the scooter to discover a roomy rider’s perch, easy reach to the handlebar, and more than enough room on the footboard.
Features
The Nmax 155 has a decent set of features, which includes all LED lights, remote boot release, and a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. The scooter sold in India might get a dual-channel ABS setup too.
Engine
Coming to the heart of the matter, the Nmax 155 is powered by a 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It produces 14.9bhp and 13.5Nm and is paired with a CVT. This engine is an absolute gem and we’ve seen it in the Yamaha R15 and the Aerox 155 as well.
It is rev-happy and refined at the same time, but what also makes it so endearing is the fuel efficiency that it manages to deliver. We expect it to be the same in the case of the Nmax 155, with the engine stop/start system helping extract more kilometres per litre.
Hardware
The Nmax 155 has an underbone chassis that is suspended by a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers. Expect the suspension to be tuned to offer more comfort than the stiff suspension of the Aerox 155. The scooter rides on 13-inch wheels at either end and as far as braking is concerned, the scooter has a disc brake at either end.
Price and competition
The Yamaha Nmax 155 is expected to be launched by the end of this year or the beginning of 2025. It may be priced at around Rs. 1.6 lakh to Rs. 1.7 lakh mark. It will go up against the upcoming Hero Xoom 160 and the Yamaha Aerox 155.
