- Over 10,000 units of R15 sold last month
- Priced at Rs 1.79 lakh
- Outsells KTM 200 by 62 per cent
The Yamaha R15 is one of the highest-selling models for the manufacturer in India, only second to the FZ range. For the month of October too, the fully-faired motorcycle has managed to record impressive sales, especially in comparison to its rival- the KTM RC 200.
To put things in perspective, Yamaha sold 10,541 units of the R15S and R15 V4 in the country last month. Meanwhile, KTM managed to sell 4,002 units of RC 200 and 200 Duke in the same time. Furthermore, the R15 V4 sales also grew by 10.3 per cent month-on-month from 9,550 units in September.
That said, the biggest reason for the difference in sales numbers could be the pricing. While the KTM RC 200 is priced at Rs 2.14 lakh, the R15 V4 costs Rs 1.79 lakh for the Metallic Red colour option whereas the more affordable S version retails at Rs 1.62 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
Now, the KTM RC 200 is the more powerful option of the two with a 199cc, single-cylinder engine that churns out 24.6bhp and 19.2Nm. On the other hand, the R15 V4 comes powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder engine that puts out 18.1bhp and 14.2Nm. But that said, it also offers more features like an optional quickshifter, traction control and full-LED lighting for the headlamp and tail lamp.
