- Yamaha patents ‘WR155’ name
- Sports dual-purpose design
- To be powered by the R15 V3’s engine
Yamaha has patented the ‘WR155’ name in Indonesia. The company’s WR range consists of dual-purpose motorcycles which are a big part of South East Asia’s motorcycle market.
Going by the design of the WR range of motorcycles, the WR155 will sport a minimalistic body that consists of a motocross-style seat, high mudguard and an upswept exhaust. To complete its character, Yamaha could equip the bike with spoke wheels and dual-purpose tyres. The WR155 is expected to be powered by the R15 V3’s 155cc, liquid-cooled engine. While the motor on the R15 produces top-end power, Yamaha could retune the motor to offer power at the lower end on the WR155. However, it is likely to be built on a double-cradle frame in contrast to the ‘Deltabox’ frame on the R15 V3. Moreover, the WR155 will ride on long travel suspension unlike the inverted forks on its fully-faired sibling.
Yamaha is expected to unveil the bike for South-East Asian markets sometime next year. It will not make its way to India anytime soon as the country doesn’t have a market for dual-purpose motorcycles yet.
