-Yamaha XSR 155 to be unveiled in Thailand on August 16
-Shares its underpinnings with the R15 V3
-Likely to be launched in India by early next year
Yamaha will reportedly unveil the XSR 155 in Thailand on August 16. The naked motorcycle will be based on the underpinnings of the R15 V3 although with a retro design inspired from the XSR 700.
The XSR 155 is expected to sport a circular headlamp with LED lighting, a muscular fuel tank, single-piece seat and a unique-looking round LED tail lamp. And while the XSR 700 sports a round instrument cluster to complete its appeal, the XSR 155 is likely to come with the same rectangular LCD display as the R15 V3. It will be powered by the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with VVA technology. The motor produces 19bhp and 14.7Nm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox along with an assist and slipper clutch. Suspension duties are to be done by USD forks for the front and monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, braking duties are to be done by disc brakes at both ends with a dual-channel ABS.
Yamaha is expected to offer the XSR 155 with colour schemes that are reminiscent to its retro motorcycles. Now, we expect the company to launch the XSR 155 in India most likely in early 2020, positioned in between the MT 15 and R15 V3 which cost Rs 1.36 lakhs and Rs 1.40 lakhs (ex-showroom) respectively. The XSR 155 would be an interesting proposition for those wanting a retro-styled, performance-focused motorcycle as the Indian market currently doesn’t have any such offerings. However, to keep costs in check, it could sport telescopic forks, single-channel ABS and a box-type swingarm similar to the MT 15.
