- Yamaha launched the 2020 Aerox 155 in Indonesia
- Powered by the same engine as the YZF R15 V3
- India launch unlikely anytime soon
Yamaha has launched the new 2020 Aerox 155 scooter in the Indonesian market. As sporty as the scooter looks in the pictures, it should be equally potent in terms of performance as its engine is borrowed from the YZF R15 V3 fully-faired motorcycle sold here in India.
The design of the Aerox is sharp and aerodynamic enough that it looks in motion even while standing still. The wide and sculpted apron houses sleek-looking dual-pod LED headlamp setup with DRLs. It also gets a small visor on the handlebar cowl which resembles that on the Ray ZR 125. The X-shaped, long and angular under seat panel ends into an LED tail lamp.
The sporty design of the Aerox is complemented by modern features such as a blue-backlit LCD display with Bluetooth connectivity. It also features a large 25-litre under seat storage provision with remote locking system, keyless ignition, hazard light switch and engine kill switch. Furthermore, Yamaha has increased the fuel tank capacity from 4.6-litres to 5.5-litres now.
Coming to the heart of the matter, powering the Aerox is a 155cc, single-cylinder with variable valve actuation (VVA), just like the R15. However, in the scooter, the engine has been tuned to produce 15.15bhp at 8,000rpm and 13.9Nm at 6,500rpm. It makes slightly lesser torque but more power as compared to the previous model
In Indonesia, Yamaha has priced the 2020 Aerox 155 at IDR 25.5 million (approximately Rs 1.29 lakh). The company is unlikely to bring it to the Indian shores anytime soon. The only sport scooter with a similar displacement we have here is the Aprilia SR 160.
