Yamaha's much-awaited R25 is being spied time and again. Amongst the various spy shots making rounds on the internet, many might have missed this image of the instrument cluster that a website posted.
To everyone's surprise, the picture shows the R25's redline set at 14,000rpm. Earlier, it was known that the Indonesian-spec R25 will be powered by a parallel-twin engine. The twin cylinder motor will be liquid-cooled and equipped with an advance fuel injection system. If Yamaha has tuned the engine to produce more than 32-33bhp and 25-26Nm of torque, then fans stand no chance of disappointment from the M1 MotoGP-inspired machine.
The Yamaha R25 boasts of an aerodynamically designed fairing, housing twin headlamps with a pilot lamp in the centre. The bike features a white backlight digital speedometer console. Coming to the rear of the motorcycle, the LED tail lamp is well incorporated into the tapered end and the stubby exhaust adds to the appeal of the bike.
This production bike though similar to the R25 Concept showcased at the Auto Expo, gets many changes. The concept was more of a M1 MotoGP contender replica while the production version, though designed with a track-centric approach, looks to be practical on the roads too.
Nevertheless, with this high-revving motor that will churn out more power and more torque, the R25 should have an edge over the Kawasaki Ninja 250, not just on the streets but on the track as well. Inspired by M1 technology, the one that helped the company develop the YZF-R15, the R125, R6 and the latest R1, the R25 is one of the best looking quarter-litre motorcycles from the manufacturer. This premium 250cc bike should stir up the competition with its Honda and Kawasaki rivals.
Let’s see what the manufacturer has in store for us when Yamaha will officially unveil the R25 in Indonesia on May 20.
