One of the most anticipated launches from Yamaha was the R25 – their latest quarter litre motorcycle. It got tremendous response in the first 25 hours of its launch where it managed to get 2,800 bookings. The demand is more than supply but the company has just announced that they will be exporting the motorcycle to around 30 countries from their Indonesia facility in next few months.
The top honcho of Yamaha , Shintaro Ambe, representative director and executive vice president, said that the Japanese manufacturer will be initially exported to 13-14 countries and the number will be increased to 30 in the future. However, it is still not clear on which countries will get completely-built-up (CBU) and completely-knocked-down (CKD) units.
The Yamaha R25 that takes three minutes to be assembled is expected to hit Indian markets in the next few months. The company’s Indian arm has been concentrating on scooters for the time being, but had confirmed to bring this motorcycle to India as it wants this motorcycle to do business as early as possible. We believe the Indian market will get a CKD model, to take cost advantage. Its competitors like the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Suzuki Inazuma are also assembled in India.
