Yamaha is riding the success wave in Indonesia with the launch of its quarter-litre motorcycle, the R25. While we are still waiting for this motorcycle to make it to Indian shores, there have been reports that a 320cc version of the motorcycle is being developed, which is likely to be called the “YZF-R3”.
Earlier this year, the Japanese manufacturer registered the “YZF-R3” name but didn’t disclose any details that will follow this name. TMC blog now claims that a 320cc engine is being worked upon to power this new motorcycle. An increase of 20cc may result in better performance that will help them take on the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Honda CBR300R.
If this report is true, we can expect the R3 to be first sold in Indonesia, just like it happened for the R25. But when we talk about R3 and the Indian market, it becomes an interesting proposition. Kawasaki is already selling the Ninja 300 in India, whereas Honda has confirmed to get the CBR300R next year to replace the slow selling CBR250R. What makes it interesting is that Yamaha has confirmed the launch of the R25 in India, next year. Well, will they change their decision or will they stick to it? Only time will tell.
