Yamaha got a new boss and along with that, there’s a new strategy is place. The company’s new boss Yoshihiro Hidaka wants Yamaha to expand its electric two-wheelers portfolio.
While the company already has a few EVs, the new boss has asked its team to work on electric-variants of some of the 125cc scooters. Taking this route will help the Japanese manufacturer ready a series of products that can be introduced to world-wide markets in the next few years. The company understands the importance of green vehicles and is in line of introducing new models in the next few years.
In fact, Yamaha and Honda partnered last year for an electric scooter project. It’s a rental and battery exchange service in a bid to expand the use of electric motorcycles in Japan. The company’s Indian arm is considering introducing electric two-wheelers in India. However, it doesn’t pull the plug on any of its petrol powered products here till the country moves to full electric transportation.
