Yamaha entered the 125cc scooter segment with two offerings, which include the women-oriented Fascino 125 and the sporty Ray ZR 125. We recently spent some quality time with the latter and you can read about our experience here. The Ray ZR is an interesting product, especially on the styling front. And in that case, we bring you a set of captivating images of the scooter from our first ride review.
Yamaha has bestowed the Ray ZR with a pit scooter-like styling which truly stands out. It carries a host of unique elements which lend it eye-catchy looks.
The handlebar cowl with sharp contours integrates a radical Y-shaped LED DRL which is accompanied by a tiny fly screen on top and flanked by turn indicators on both sides.
The wide front apron gets a dual-tone finish and houses a bold headlamp while the faux air intakes add a bit of muscle and drama to its aesthetics.
Adding to its modernity is a rectangular-shaped, fully-digital instrument cluster which shows all the necessary information and a few tell-tale lights.
Powering the new Ray ZR is a 125cc, fuel-injected, air-cooled motor which churns out 8bhp at 6,500rpm and 9.7Nm of peak torque at 5,000rpm.
While the power figures are not extraordinary for this segment, weighing in at 99kgs (kerb), the Ray ZR is pretty light which aids in its agility and peppiness.
It rides on a 12-10-inch alloy wheel combination which is suspended by telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Stopping power comes from a drum brake at both ends while a front disc is available as an option.
The prices of the Yamaha Ray ZR 125 start at Rs 69,530 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it competes against the TVS Ntorq 125, Hero Maestro Edge 125, Honda Grazia and Suzuki Burgman Street 125.
