It hasn't been a long time since the Yamaha R1M was launched globally and now the company has already issued their first recall for this motorcycle. The reason for this recall is over faulty Ohlins rear suspension that could hamper the riding ability of the motorcycle.
The company said that on certain motorcycles, the rear shock absorber may not have been manufactured correctly. The piston rod nut may have been tightened before the piston had the correct full metal-to-metal contact. This could result in the nut loosening, preventing proper rear suspension action, and could cause poor handling that may result in a crash causing injury.
This recall has affected over 62 motorcycles. Yamaha dealers will inspect the R1Ms and, if necessary will replace the defective rear shock with a new one. The recall was a part of Ohlins’ global aftermarket accessories issue, however, the company figured out that the TTX36 shocks installed as stock components may also be affected.
Yamaha Motor India recently launched the R1M in India. Though very few motorcycles might have been sold in India yet, it is still unclear if the Indian arm will recall the bikes to fix the suspension issue.
