Yamaha has pulled the wraps off its new tourer – the Tracer 700. Based on the naked MT-07, the Tracer 700 will take care of the needs of long distance riders.
At first glance, the Tracer 700 will remind you of its elder sibling – the MT-09 Tracer. However, the Japanese designers and engineers have made sure to keep the design of the Tracer 700 more subtle at the fairing and the headlamp assembly. And this has made the Tracer 700 look like a proper tourer, unlike the MT 09 Tracer, which still has a little bit of naked styling to it. Yamaha is marketing the Tracer 700 as a sports tourer which is loaded with good performance and is quite agile too - something that takes it close to the Kawasaki Versys 650.
In terms of the Tracer 700’s ability, there’s a 17-litre fuel tank that gives a range of close to 340kms. The motorcycle is equipped with adjustable screen and knuckle guards. Mechanically, the 75bhp parallel twin engine from the MT-07 remains unchanged. This engine produces 68Nm at 6500rpm to take care of the touring needs. Gearbox is six-speed with one down, five-up shifts. The braking department is taken care of by dual 282mm front discs and 245mm rear disc with ABS as standard.
Yamaha has increased the swingarm of this bike by 50mm, taking its wheelbase to 1450mm. Suspension settings have been altered to suit this change in chassis geometry. The Tracer 700 tips the scale at 196kg, without any panniers. Yamaha is offering this motorcycle in three colours – red, blue and black. The Yamaha Tracer 700 will cost you £6299 (Rs 5.98 lakh) in the UK market. However, this motorcycle won’t come to India any time soon, but we would love to see the Tracer 700 battle with the Kawasaki Versys 650 in the Indian market.
