India Yamaha Motors has sold little more than 600 units of the YZF-R3 since its launch in August last year.
As per the company, this is a good sales number for a motorcycle at this price point. However, Yamaha is bullish about its future sales, which is expected to grow in the next couple of months. While the initial sales target for the YZF-R3 was 200 units a month, the company realigned its target to 100 units a month.
Priced at RS 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delh), the YZF-R3 competes with the Kawasaki Ninja 300. However, at this price point, there are a limited set of buyers who will walk into the showroom for this entry-level super sport motorcycle. Currently, the Japanese manufacturer sells this motorcycle as a completely-knocked-down (CKD) route. Interestingly, none of the parts are localized for this bike and the Japanese manufacturer don’t intend to localize any of the components, unless there’s volume for the bike. So due to this, there won’t be any price reduction of the YZF-R3.
