Yamaha has launched a teaser video of a new adventure bike which will be unveiled on September 6. While the video doesn’t spell it out, it is obvious that this motorcycle is the production version of the Yamaha T7 concept, showcased at the 2016 EICMA Show in Italy.
This new adventure bike will be a spiritual successor to the iconic XT600Z Tenere. Although it is based on the MT-07 platform, the chassis will get a major overhaul to suit the T7’s character. At the heart of the T7 is a 698cc parallel twin instead of the XT600Z Tenere’s single-cylinder engine. The concept featured exotic components like carbon fibre fairing and skid plate, though these might not make it to the production model. What we are likely to get is an aluminium fuel tank, LED headlamps, KYB suspension parts and an Akrapovic exhaust system.
The new adventure bike is being developed with inputs from Yamaha’s official rally team in France, Yamaha R&D in Italy, and GK Design from the Netherlands. We can expect more details to be revealed as we get closer to the unveiling of the motorcycle. While the motorcycle will go on sale globally in early 2018, it might be a while before Yamaha even considers launching it in India.
