Yamaha is aiming to sell 10 lakh two-wheelers in the Indian market in 2017. The country’s fourth largest two-wheeler manufacturer has revealed its roadmap for the next year to help it achieve this target.
Quite unlike other mass market two-wheeler manufacturers in the country, Yamaha would be banking on its scooter and premium motorcycle range to bump up its sales numbers. Due to the stiff competition in the mass market segments of commuter motorcycles, the company has turned its focus towards premium offerings to help it achieve its target. The company currently enjoys a 10 per cent market share in the 150cc segment thanks to the YZF-R15 and FZ range, despite these being quite expensive offerings. Even the Ray ZR has gotten off to a flying start with the scooter’s sales crossing 20,000 units in the last month.
With an annual projection of eight lakh units in this year, Yamaha is expecting the sales to cross 10 lakh units in 2017. The current year’s projection is already 30 per cent over what the company had managed last year and going by the way things are right now, Yamaha seems well on its way to achieve the target. The company is also planning to aggressively expand its footprint across the country. With its network spreading to over 600 outlets by the end of this year, Yamaha will keep adding 150 dealerships every year.
