- Tenere 700 being considered for India launch
- CBU unit from Japan
- Launch likely in late 2025
Yamaha India is considering launching one of the most awaited motorcycles – the Tenere 700. The initial work on this project has just commenced.
The Tenere 700 is possibly one of the best adventure bikes ever made. It is known for its no-nonsense design and feature approach towards enduro riding. As a result of this, a lot of adventure riders in India have been waiting to see this bike launch in India, and looks like it will finally happen.
The top management in Yamaha India knows about the potential of the Tenere 700 in India, however, they are struggling with pricing this bike right in India. Currently, a lot of ADVs from brands like BMW, Ducati and Triumph are sold in India, however, all these bikes are fully imported from Thailand. Due to the FTA between India and Thailand, there's no import duty to be paid. But in the case of the Yamaha Tenere 700, the import duty applies as the bike will be imported from Japan. Currently, the Tenere 700 is manufactured in Japan and France only.
Interestingly, the Honda XL750 Transalp is sold in India as a CBU unit from Japan and that bike has a decent on-road price of Rs 12.5 lakh. In this case, Yamaha could also sell the Tenere 700 at a sub-Rs 15 lakh price point, but the company would want higher margins to justify the launch in India. If everything goes as planned, the new Tenere 700 should be launched in India in late 2025.
