- Yamaha Tricity 300 scooter launched in the US
- Gets three-wheels and a 292cc engine
- Unlikely to be launched in India
Yamaha has launched its three-wheeled scooter, the Tricity 300 in the USA after unveiling it at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
The Tricity 300 gets a maxi-scooter design language and features a large front end with a full-LED headlamp and a large windscreen. The step-up single-piece seat and the rear section is also massive and goes well with the overall styling of the Tricity 300.
Yamaha claims that the Tricity 300 offers 50:50 weight distribution with the rider on board along with a natural turn-in feel and decent stability, especially for newer riders. Moreover, the scooter comes with a feature called Standing Assist that keeps the Tricity 300 upright until the throttle is used and can also help the rider to put the hefty, 239kg scooter onto the main stand. Apart from these features, the Yamaha Tricity 300 also comes with a digital instrument cluster, parking brake, keyless ignition, and traction control. The most interesting bit is that the scooter can be ridden by anyone with a car license, in Europe as well as the USA.
Now coming to the technical side of the Tricity 300. The scooter is powered by a 292cc, single-cylinder motor borrowed from the XMax 300. This unit produces 27.2bhp at 7250rpm and 29Nm at 5750rpm and is paired to an automatic V-Belt gearbox. The leaning mechanism uses double telescopic forks that hold onto 14-inch wheels up front. The rear end, on the other hand, uses twin-shocks and a 14-inch wheel. Meanwhile, braking is handled by large 267mm discs at both ends along with ABS as standard.
The Yamaha Tricity 300 has been priced at USD 7399 (approx. Rs 5.58 lakh) and is positioned between Yamaha’s other three-wheeled, leaning products; the Tricity 125 and the bigger, MT-09-based Niken. However, the Tricity 300 is unlikely to be launched in India as there is no market for three-wheeled scooters here.
