Yamaha is working on an entry-level motorcycle which the Japanese manufacturer plans to launch in India first. The company, with a target to increase its market share in the Indian market, will aim to price the product at around Rs 30,000.
Yamaha officials confirmed the developments going on with the project. They did not mention any particular time period when the new bike will be launched but confaffirmed that India would be the first market for the product.
Currently, Yamaha India sells the Crux and the YBR 110 in the 100cc segment. of motorcycles. The new motorcycle will join this line-up and should at least increase the presence of the entry-level bike segment in our country. Only time will tell if it will change the sales numbers for the company.
Toshikazu Kobayashi, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor R&D India, said, "The project is on. At this time we are not sure if the end product will cost US $500, less or more. But we are working on the project keeping US $500 as the benchmark price. We are trying our best. This is an important segment (small bike) that would help the company improve its market share in the country."
