Yamaha is going to launch a higher spec version of its 847cc streetfighter, the MT-09 in 2018. The MT-09 SP will sell alongside the standard bike.
If the MT-10 SP is anything to go by, we should see the MT-09 SP get a significant upgrade to its suspension setup as well as a unique paint job. We can expect Yamaha to use semi-active Ohlins suspension for the MT-09 SP, which would be a considerable upgrade over the stock setup. It will also get revised mapping for the engine to improve the throttle response and a quickshifter for clutchless gear changes.
The powertrain, however, will be the same as the standard bike. It is an 847cc inline three mill that produces 115bhp at 10,000rpm and peak torque of 87.5Nm at 85000rpm.While the stock Yamaha MT-09 competes against the Triumph Street Triple 765, MT-09 SP will compete against the Street Triple RS and the Kawasaki Z900.
