Yamaha is going to take the wraps off their new commuter motorcycle tomorrow. A successor to the Crux commuter bike, this new model will be the most affordable motorcycle in Yamaha’s Indian portfolio.
Yamaha has so far been tight-lipped about this new motorcycle. However, as with the Yamaha Saluto, we can expect this new commuter motorcycle to get stylish looks to attract a rural as well as a metropolitan audience. To suit the budget of a wide range of customers, this model is expected to be offered in multiple versions like spoke-drum, alloy-drum and alloy-disc. The most basic version might also get an electric start as optional extra, to keep the price competitive.
When it comes to powertrain, this new model is expected to get a carburetted single-cylinder air-cooled engine, displacing between 100cc and 110cc. Power output is expected to be in the region of 8bhp and 8Nm of torque. Given the motorcycle’s target audience and emphasis on extracting maximum efficiency, we can safely assume the engine to come equipped with Yamaha’s proprietary BlueCore technology. This technology optimizes the combustion process by reducing power loss in the engine, thereby improving efficiency and emission numbers, without compromising on performance.
This new commuter motorcycle will compete against the likes of Hero Passion Pro, Honda CD 110 Dream and the TVS Victor.
